Energy - Power Less
The Energy Sub Group is in the process of forming and is inviting people to come together and engage on more renewable sources of energy for the PL:21 area as well as see how we can conserve as much energy as possible as we go forward. There are some exciting projects in the offing which we would welcome input on.
In September 2008 during PL:21's first year of activity, one of the key events that we put on was that of an Energy Week. Screening of the film An Inconvenient Truth at Ivybridge's Watermark Centre was followed by a Saving Business Energy event which included speakers from Envision, Bandvulc Tyres and Efficient Light.
An Energy Fair followed on the Saturday featuring talks on Energy Efficiency at Home, Solar Thermal, Solar PV, Climate Change and Dartmoor, Wind Turbines and Biomass. An exhibition accompanied all the talks and the event was attended by over 100 people.
October 2009 saw PL:21's participation in Dartmoor and Exmoor's Low Carbon Festival which included a Low Carbon Event being put on at Ivybridge Methodist Church Hall. In July 2010 a working group was set up to look at various sites within Ivybridge to discuss options of Micro Hydro on the River Erme.
If you would like to be a part of a group designed to help PL:21 Power Less and move to a more renewable way of generating energy please do get in touch, there are various wind, solar PV, solar thermal, micro hydro and biomass schemes bubbling up all over the PL:21 area or just beyond and we'd love to discuss all possibilities with you for the future energy security of the area. Why not contact Tony now to see how best to get involved with the Energy Sub Group.
