The Ivybridge area now has its very own community energy society, South Dartmoor Community Energy (SDCE), which was officially registered with the Financial Conduct Authority on the 8th June 2016. The society has evolved out of the PL:21 energy group and is a community benefit society, with 8 volunteer Directors. (www.southdartmoorcommunityenergy.org)
SDCE aims to help local people reduce their fuel bills through energy efficiency advice and initiatives and to develop renewable energy projects to reduce the local carbon footprint and fund further community projects. The society has already been invited to be part of the Governments Big Energy Saving Network and is looking for volunteers to help deliver energy efficiency advice to vulnerable consumers across the PL21 area. Training and support will be provided and expenses covered, so if you enjoy speaking to people, have a few hours to spare a month and would like to help people reduce their fuel bills and get the best from their energy providers, please get in touch with Sophie using firstname.lastname@example.org .
South Dartmoor Community Energy is also looking for groups to provide energy advice sessions and talks to and teams of home visiting professionals to speak to. We are also looking for businesses on the Lee Mill Industrial estate who are willing to explore working with us to install solar panels on their roof as a community project. If you can support our energy work in any way please get in touch with: Katie Reville
