Food - Produce Local
Food and how we produce it more locally and sustainably is one of the key aspects of making our communities more resilient to the threat of peak oil, climate change and economic contraction. A great many of PL:21's strengths lie within this sector and a number of events connected to this sub group have already been instigated since the initiative's inception.
Indeed our very first event as an initiative was connected to seedling swapping in April 2008, which has spawned subsequent annual events in seed swapping ever since, helping us all Plant Lots to be able to produce more locally. In May 2009 we saw a very successful event titled from Plant to Plate launched on the town which got a great many local producers and foodies involved with what the project has been setting out to achieve. Ongoing connections with the local farmers market, apple pressing and Ermington Companion Planters has seen a Local Food Forum come into existence and this has proved a catalyst in order to bring producers and retailers together to promote more local food in the area. One of the projects evolving out of the Local Food Forum has been the Produce Link initiative which aims to represent food from the PL:21 area and South West Dartmoor hinterland within the city of Plymouth, for more details on how this could work for you why not check out the dedicated page or view the food blog for the most up to date details.
