Help Bats
Bats play an essential role in pest control, pollinating plants and dispersing seeds. They help in maintaining a healthy eco system. Bats are the only true flying mammals in the world. We have 18 species of Bat in the U.K, they all feed on insects - did you know that the tiny pipistrelle can eat up to 3,000 insects in a night ! Bats are vulnerable to pressures such as habitat loss, building and development work, cat attacks, use of pesticides, intensive farming practices and artificial lighting.
Devon is incredibly lucky to have some really special bats that you often don’t find find in the rest of the country. We have recorded 16 species of British bats out of a potential 18, including Lesser and Greater Horseshoes, Nathusius Pipistrelles and Grey Long Eared bats.
