PL:21 - Meet the Team

Chair & Treasurer | John Pope (Trustee)
Research physicist turned chartered accountant turned computer industry contract negotiator
and project manager. My wife and I moved to Devon from South Bucks in 2010 after retiring,
and now live in Harford which gives us easy access for walking on Dartmoor.
Our land includes a semi-ancient oak woodland bordering the river Erme which is designated
as a County Wildlife Site and absorbs much of my time.
I have been interested in the problems of climate change for as long as I can remember, which
is why I joined PL:21. For me nothing is more important than reducing CO2 emissions.
We are keen tennis players, and belong to both Ivybridge and Avon Vale tennis clubs. I was for
several years Harford Parish Clerk, I am currently Chairman of SDCE (South Devon Community
Energy), Treasurer of the Ivybridge Rail User Group, a member SHCAN (South Hams Climate
Action Network), and a membered of the SHDC’s Climate Change and Biodiversity Community
Forum.

Communications | Tim Poate (Trustee)
I am a Coastal Research Consultant working at the University of Plymouth and moved to Ivybridge in 2012. My work focuses on coastal processes and the likely impacts of climate change. With a young family and a drive to be involved with my community for positive change I started the Plastic Free Ivybridge campaign through PL:21 and have continued from there.
I am happiest in/under/around water windsurfing/surfing/swimming- thankfully all of these are possible right on our doorstep in Devon and I am keen to help however I can to ensure they remain for generations to come.
I cycle to Plymouth for work (currently missing that commute due to lock-down) otherwise we have a converted van which we use for coastal adventures whenever we can. I am also involved with the Filham Bike Track looking at ways to provide better youth facilities in the town.

Council Representative | Cllr Tessa Lannin (Trustee)
I am a Housing Officer for a local Housing Association, Ivybridge Town Councillor, and Mum to 3 teenagers. I am passionate about protecting our environment for future generations and social justice. I love walking, and wild camping on Dartmoor leaving no trace. I am always looking for changes we can make as a family to reduce our environmental footprint, however as well as individual actions, we need larger structural changes to tackle the climate crisis. I got involved with PL:21, as I want to help campaign for changes to make it easier for our community to live more sustainably.

Graham Wilson (Trustee)

I am a chartered quantity surveyor, now retired having ran my own practice locally since 1983. I am joint group volunteer coordinator for Sustrans South Devon group as well as a trained ride manager. When the current pandemic allows, I hope to lead guided cycle rides locally to encourage people into cycling. I used to fund raise for Devon Wildlife Trust and the National Deaf Children’s Society with organized cycle and hiking challenges.
I have a small farm with pasture and an ancient woodland and have raised the grassland to achieve County Wildlife status by reducing nitrogen and encouraging wild flowers to grow. The fields are now grazed by Dexter cattle. I am passionate about biodiversity and keen to encourage the benefits of the great outdoors for healthier and happier lifestyles.

Gillian Glegg (Trustee)

I have been a lecturer at the University of Plymouth in marine sciences for 30 years and have been
involved in PL21 for about 10 years. I spent much of lock down on zoom with the cat on my shoulder
hence the photo! In my work I focus on pollution and environmental management in rivers and
coastal waters including those in S Devon. I think PL21 can provide us all with an opportunity to learn
what we can do to improve our local environment and while at the same time reducing our impact
on the wider world.
I live in Lutton where I am a tree warden and very involved in our Millennium Community orchard
especially enjoying the annual apple pressing and wassailing events. I am always happy to get
involved with tree planting and we are just starting a tree nursery for our parish. I am a keen horse
rider and love exploring Dartmoor on foot and horseback.

Nadine Dommett (Trustee)
A very busy person indeed...from the Makers Mews wesbite where Nadine is more often found:
Nadine, the founder of Makers Mews. She’s a dedicated Ivybridge local forever reminiscing of the chip cones + outdoor pools of yesteryear, a graphic designer + creator, driven by environmental stewardship/acknowledging there is no “away” to throw stuff. Recently elected to South Hams District Council + a fervent advocate for Young Devon + PL:21, she just wants to ‘provide good stuff’ for Ivybridge. In her role, Nadine is basically the wizard behind the curtain steering business strategy + long-term planning. Aiming to craft an enduring legacy for Makers Mews + nurturing a community committed to creativity, sustainability, + growth.
